Weekend trip to a creek in Butler county, Alabama, with several members camping out for the long holiday.

Our November speaker will be Dr. Dana Ehret, Curator of Paleontology for the University of Alabama Museums. Dr. Ehret will present “Darwin and Paleontology: Search for the Missing Intermediates." Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A at 7:30pm. Free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, National Fossil Day will be celebrated at Smith Hall on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.  Several groups will show their collections, including the Geologic Survey of Alabama, and BPS.  Bring your unknown fossils and experts will be on hand to identify them.  There will also be a 3D printing demonstration, and a talk about Alabama paleontology by a museum paleontologist.  The group exhibit runs from 4pm until 6pm.  At 5:30 there will be a new museum exhibit opening, Tide for Tusks, so come stay for both events.  Free event for all ages.

The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa will be presenting a number of speakers for the Alabama Lectures on Life's Evolution Series. 

Our speaker for October is Tom Tobin, Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Alabama. Dr. Tobin will speak on “The End Cretaceous Mass Extinction in Antarctica”

Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A/B. The business meeting will begin at 7pm, followed by the speaker from 7:30 - 8:30.Free and open to the public.

Trip to a creek in Butler county, Alabama.  A good turnout for the hot weather.  Creek was good for cooling off while hunting fossils.

Our speaker for September is John Hall, Curator of Educational Outreach at the University of West Alabama, who will speak on the Hodges Meteorite. Hoover Public Library, Theater Conference Room. The business meeting will begin at 7pm, followed by the speaker from 7:30 - 8:30.Free and open to the public.

NOTE - meeting is 2nd Monday in Sept due to the Labor Day holiday.

Our August speaker will be Archaeologist Dr. Ashley Dumas, who will be talking about her research at Fort Tombecbe, an early 18th century fort in Sumter Co that was occupied by the French, Spanish, and British before it became part of the US.  Dr. Dumas specializes in the late prehistoric Southeast, European colonization, and salt and civilization.  She is Assistant Director of the Black Belt Museum and teaches all of the Anthropology courses at the University of West Alabama.

The BPS business meeting starts at 7:00, and the program is from 7:30pm - 8:30pm.

Our speaker for July is James Lamb, Curator of Paleontology at the Black Belt Museum at the University of West Alabama, who will speak on “ Earthquakes: Not All They’re Cracked Up To Be,” a discussion about the recent central Alabama earthquakes. Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A/B. The business meeting will begin at 7pm, followed by the speaker from 7:30 - 8:30.Free and open to the public.
