September 22, 2018 - Cretaceous Fossils, Dallas and Perry County, Al.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, a nice-sized group of BPS members and guests gathered in anticipation of

October 1, 2018 BPS Program – "New Insights into the Biology and Diversity of the Late Cretaceous Armored Dinosaurs."

Our speaker for October is Dr. Michael Burns, Assistant Professor of Biology at Jacksonville State University.
Hoover Public Library, downstairs, Fitzgerald Room. Business meeting at 7pm, program starts at 7:30. Free and open to the public.

August 11, 2018 - Oligocene Fossils, Jasper County, MS

On Saturday, Aug 11, 2018, a small group of BPS members and guests traveled to Jasper County, Mississippi where we were joined by our enthusiastic, knowledgeable host.  We were led to a small working lime quarry that featured, from the Oligocene, outcrops of Bucatunna clay, Glendon formation limestone and Marianna limestone.  The quarry process yielded specimens from the Mint Spring unit but the unit itself was underwater. 

August 6, 2018 BPS Program “Using New Techniques to Understand Old Fossils”

Our speaker for August is Dr. Brad Deline, Associate Professor in Geosciences at the University of West Georgia.
Dr. Deline will speak on “Using new techniques to understand old fossils: Unraveling the mystery of coiling crinoid anal sacs."
