Large earthquakes out West tend to attract most of the attention, but surprisingly, there are numerous earthquakes in or near Alabama. There are several seismic stations in Alabama that pick up the earth disturbances, including one at McWane Science Center in Birmingham, one in Bibb County, and one in Brewton. The Center for Earthquake Research and Information provides a map of the eastern United States, showing local earthquakes.
