Dr. Tony Martin will present "Dinosaurs Without Bones: What Dinosaur Trace Fossils Tell us About Evolution" on Thursday, October 2nd 2014, in the Biology Building Auditorium (Rm. 127) at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
This one day workshop will be in Livingston near Selma, Alabama on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Taught by professors from the University of West Alabama and geologists from the Geological Survey of Alabama, it is primarily for science teachers, and will help integrate real earth science into the curricula. The cost is $15. Teachers will visit 2 or more fossiliferous a large outcrop near Livingston Selma. Fossils include oysters, other bivalves, snails, bryozoan, worm tubes, and shark teeth.
Our speaker on October 6 will be Dr. R. Scot Duncan, Associate Professor of Biology and Urban Environmental Studies at Birmingham-Southern College. Dr. Duncan will be speaking on “Alabama’s Biodiversity: What we have, why we have it, and why it matters.” He will also have copies of his recently published book, Southern Wonder: Alabama’s Surprising Biodiversity, available for purchase after the program.

Dr. Ehret will present “New Fossil Finds for 2014” highlighting some of the new fossils the Alabama Museum found this Spring and Summer. Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A at 7:30pm. August’s program is titled "Cretaceous Park - the Ingersoll Shale and the rise of flowering plants." Dr. Brian Axsmith of the University of South Alabama will examine the significance of the plant fossils at this important site in Russell County and show some of the other fossils from the site including feathers and insects in amber.
