Heads up everyone! The Alabama Museum of Natural History will hold their annual National Fossil Day Event in the Grand Gallery on November 2, 2024. BPS, along with many other groups, will showcase fossils from their collections. There are several kid friendly events, including a fossil dig, give-aways, and art tables. The 2024 Alabama Avocational Paleontologist Award will be presented to BPS this year, and there will be a dinosaur movie, "Why Dinosaurs" documentary, followed by a Q&A with the producer, Tony Pinto. As more details become available, they will be posted.
Here is a preliminary schedule:
The 2024 theme is dinosaurs!
As many people know, BPS members discovered a new species of hadrosaur dinosaur on one of our field trips in 2007. It was one of our most exciting digs, and provided the research community with an entirely new species of dinosaur to study, Eotrachodon orientalis, which means “dawn rough tooth from the east.”
