July 11, 2011 Meeting - Guest Speaker - Dr. Brad Deline

Dr. Brad Deline, Assistant Professor at the University of West Georgia, will present a lecture titled "Crinoids Through Time" at the Monday, July 11, 2011 meeting of the Birmingham Paleontological Society.  The focus of Dr. Deline's research is in exploring the underlying causes and patterns of morphologic diversity in stemmed echinoderms and metazoans overall.  In other words, why are there so many body styles of sea urchins and crinoids?  He also studies the process of fossilization.

Abstracts of Dr. Deline's research on crinoids:

Testing the plateau: a reexamination of disparity and morphologic constraints in early Paleozoic crinoids (Deline & Ausich)

Inter- and Intraspecific Morphological Variation of Crinoid Columnals in Relation to Water Depth in the Type Cincinnatian (Upper Ordovician)
