Alabama has gotten a lot of rain lately, with that said... Saturday turned out to be a good day to fossil hunt! Today, we were fortunate to have gorgeous weather, but with heat. BPS made their annual trip down to a South Alabama site on private property where Cretaceous Period marine fossils are found. Despite the heat, the canopy of trees that towered over the creek was welcomed relief from the beating the sun would've given us. Many cool fossils were found, including Shark Teeth, Mosasaur Vertebrae, Brachiopods, Micro Fossils, and other assorted marine fossils found that lived during the Cretaceous period. There were some surprises that were found as well, such as ice age pieces of bone, perhaps where two geological formations overlapped? As always, it was fun for those who braved the heat of the day. Look forward to the next trip down there.
