Our speaker for March will Dr. Ron Buta, Professor of Astronomy at the University of Alabama. Dr. Buta will present "Footprints in Stone: The Wonder of Alabama's Coal-Age Trace Fossils" which will include the history of trackway discovery and collecting in Alabama, types of trackways found, the evidence for a possible megatracksite in Alabama, and what it means for Alabama paleontology. Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A. Free and open to the public.
Our February speaker will be Dr. Bill Fowler who will present a program titled “Fluorescence in Fossils.” Dr. Fowler studied fluorescence as part of his graduate work in chemistry at the University of Florida. He will bring to the meeting a UV light and some of the fossil specimens covered in the talk for viewing after the presentation. Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A at 7:30pm. McWane has a new website. Jun has been given three pages he maintains that are related to the McWane collection. The first page provides a brief overview of the collection and the natural history exhibits.

The January speaker is James Lames, Curator of Paleontology at the Black Belt Museum and Professor of Zoology at the University of West Alabama. He will be speaking on “What happened in the world of paleontology in 2015.”
The business meeting, including elections and installation of officers, will begin at 7pm. The lecture will begin at 7:30.

A trip back to the gullies, not as hot as usual, actually very pleasant. A number of shark vertebra and various fish fossils and jaws were found. Several shark teeth and enchodus teeth were also found.
