Our guest speaker will be Dr. Sandy Ebersole, Geologist at the Geological Survey of Alabama will present a lecture on "Microstructure of Fossil Bone and Teeth". October 18, 2011 - UWA Teacher Workshop - Sumter Co. AL

The first workshop was held in 1997, and was organized by the late Richard Thurn of the University of West Alabama and David Kopaska-Merkel and Andrew K.
Celebrate National Fossil Day at the McWane Science Center
The Birmingham Paleontological Society will have a special fossil display set up at the McWane Science Center on Monday, October 10, outside the paleo lab. This event will coincide with a school group day at the museum.
This is in conjunction with Earth Science Week, organized each year by the American Geological Institute.
October 3, 2011 - Guest Speaker - Thomas Lang
Our guest speaker will be Thomas Lang, owner of Carto-Craft, the best source of maps in this area. His lecture is titled "Progression of Mapping". He has been in the mapping business for 25 years and is an expert on the mapping process, from ancient hand drawn maps to modern day maps using satellites.

Science Teacher Workshop - Fossils of the Black Belt
A teacher workshop in Livingston Alabama on Tuesday, October 18, will provide experience collecting and identifying fossils from the fossiliferous limestone chalks of south Alabama. All teachers who feel this experience and the materials they receive in the classroom will assist them back in their own schools are welcome to attend.
Workshop presented by the Geological Survey of Alabama, the University of Alabama, Discovering Alabama, the Black Belt Museum, the Alabama Geological Society, and with volunteer help from the Birmingham Paleontological Society.
Sept 12, 2011 - Guest Speaker - James Lamb
Paleontologist James Lamb will be our speaker at the September 12th meeting. James is currently the Curator of Paleontology at The Black Belt Museum in Livingston, Alabama.
