Our speaker for December will be James Lamb, Curator of Paleontology at the Black Belt Museum in Livingston, Alabama. He will speak on "What happened in the world of paleontology in 2013." Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A. Free and open to the public.

Our speaker for November is Riley Chandler who will speak on Pterosaurs. Riley has twice appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show and enjoys delivering dinosaur presentations at schools and museums.  You can view some of Riley’s appearances and presentations at http://www.rileytalk.com/

Our speaker for October is David Kopaska-Merkel of the Geological Survey of Alabama who will speak on "Fossil Reefs of Alabama." McWane Science Center; Special Events Center Level 3. Free and open to the public.

Our speaker for September is Drew Gentry, UAB doctoral student, who will speak on "Pleistocene Ichnofauna of White Sands, New Mexico." Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room B&C. Free and open to the public.

The "Fossils of Alabama" exhibit was in the Ellenburg Art Gallery at the Homewood Library during the month of July.  On Sunday, July 28, BPS hosted an open house for the community.  It was a big hit with kids of all ages, who had the opportunity to get up close and personal with fossils, and dig for their own fossils in the sand pit.

After a morning spent collecting in the HOT gullies, we cooled off at lunch in a torrential downpour.  Luckily the weather cleared up in time for collecting in a nearby creek, which was delayed a bit while we had to find the access road under all the kudzu!  Yes, it's taking over Alabama!

This trip is always popular in spite of the distance.  It's always well worth the drive, and again this year, a number of fossils in very good condition were found.
