Science Teacher Workshop - Fossils of the Black Belt
A teacher workshop in Livingston Alabama on Tuesday, October 18, will provide experience collecting and identifying fossils from the fossiliferous limestone chalks of south Alabama. All teachers who feel this experience and the materials they receive in the classroom will assist them back in their own schools are welcome to attend.
Workshop presented by the Geological Survey of Alabama, the University of Alabama, Discovering Alabama, the Black Belt Museum, the Alabama Geological Society, and with volunteer help from the Birmingham Paleontological Society.

June 6, 2011 - Guest Speaker - Dr. Henry Barwood
Dr. Henry Barwood, currently Professor of Earth Science at Troy State University, will present a lecture titled "Microstructure of Fossil Bone and Teeth" at the Monday, June 6, 2011 meeting of the Birmingham Paleontological Society. Dr. Barwood has done extensive research in rock staining techniques, fluorescence and luminescence in minerals, structure of pegmatites, turquoise and other copper minerals from various states, and has researched the phosphate minerals of Cherokee County, Alabama.
